Clariant unveils new polymer for medical device protection

PKBR Staff Writer Published 27 April 2012

Clariant Group member, Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging has unveiled a new polymer to address the growing demands from medical diagnostics and device customers for enhanced protection against excess humidity.

The antidusting Advanced Desiccant Polymer (ADP) delivers good adsorbent capabilities that are integrated into thermoplastics directly, used in packaging or the device itself and eliminates the need for extraneous desiccants such as sachets.

According to the company, the technology provides benefits including protection throughout the shelf life of the diagnostic or device and the ability to customize adsorption kinetics to create an optimal end product.

ADP can help customers differentiate their products through maximized shelf life and accuracy. Due to its seamless integration with thermoplastics, it eliminates the need for separate desiccants.

The polymer also helps avoid false readings and improve diagnostic accuracy for medical conditions by protecting the microbiological stability in vitro diagnostic (IVD) reagents and drug-device combination products against humidity.
